I can still remember the rush to the front as soon as the Specials came on stage. The Apollo had a good space between the first row and the stage which was great for dancing but the stage was about 12 feet tall so you could only see the band if they came and leaned over the edge. I spent the whole gig dancing at the front with a group of huge bouncers about 6 inches from my face. I didn't see any aggro though. Their only foray into the crowd was to rescue Jerry Dammers. He had been sitting on the edge of the stage with Terry Hall. I looked away for a second (making a pitiful attempt to chat up the cute rude girl beside me) and when I looked back, Dammers was in mid flight.Someone might have grabbed his ankles and pulled him off but I think it was a truly suicidal piece of stage diving. I mean, we can all remember how high the stage was!. All I can say is that the missing front teeth suddenly made sense....nutter! The monkey men piled into the crowd with fists flailing and managed to drag him out again although I think a fair bit of his wardrobe stayed in various parts of Glasgow. The music was superb, the venue sweaty and everything over too soon...and yes, I can still remember the smell like it was yesterday. [reply]
