| Great gig, Queensryche supported and were superbly technical, a lot different to the
usual support fodder that some bands had. Think Ronnie got Vivien Campbell from a wee
Irish band called....pass(could someone remind me)? Crackin show met them after the
gig, Ronnie, Jimmy, Vivien signed my combat jacket which i still have but
unfortunately has shrunk over the years. Did Vinnie Appice play drums that
night??Remember this other guy saying'would you like me to sign your jacket?'i said,
' naw mate, ah'm waitin oan the band'. He promptly got up from his seat in the stalls
and left, turns out, he was the keyboard player, Claude somethin.....hey-ho.

| DIO were always good.
Ronnie was always up for meeting the fans.
My MRS
was in the fan club and in 87 when they were playing Donington there was a last
minute change of plan re backstage passes and after phoning California we were told
to meet Bristol's answer to Tom Russell (Brian Pithers) and he would have our passes.
We did and he did. After Dio's set, Ronnie tried to get us into the inner sanctum but
the bouncers said without "Access all Areas" passes we were going
nowhere. Ronnie went and got his Mrs (Wendy) who was also his manager and she
lead us by the hand past the bouncers, no problem.
Excellent day with loads of
photos of other spectators such as Iron Maiden, Lemmy, Bob Catley.
I remember
the bus coming home with a load of Metallica fans who had just had their eyes opened
all saying what a brilliant singer Ronnie was.
Dio's drummer was Claude
Schnell. (later replaced by Simon Wright formerly of AC/DC)
Dio's tour manager
in 87 was a guy called Billy Fyffe, the grandson of Will Fyffe (the man who wrote
"I belong to Glasgow)

| Dio, Glasgow Apollo 23/9/84
What a show!
I’d been looking forward to
this one – Rainbow had been a particular favourite of mine, and Dio’s first album was
colossal!
Dio himself, however, is far from colossal – it was quite amusing to
see him stride onstage dressed in his finest “dungeons and dragons” gear, at least a
head-height smaller than everyone else onstage. But what a voice! What a band! Vivian
Campbell in particular was stellar – and what a setlist! The highlight of the night
for me was Long Live Rock ‘N’ Roll, superb!
My seat was in the second row,
right in front of the right hand PA stack. I have never heard anything as loud in my
life, nor have I ever been deaf for as long after a gig – It must have been the best
bit of a week before I could hear properly again. It wasn’t the greatest seat, you
could hardly see the stage from there, which was why I preferred the lower circle
seats
I never saw Dio live again, I kind of lost interest as each successive
album wasn’t as good as the last one. But one of the truly great gigs I was lucky
enough to be at.
John
