And then he walked along the edge of the Circle

This is the place where we will post your stories about the Green's Playhouse, The Glasgow Apollo and Satelitte City (The Wee Apollo). As it develops we will break the stories up into sections such as Myths, Gigs I missed, Meeting the Bands, Where are they now etc. No story too trivial and we will only edit out bad language!

New Forum structure on Apollomemories soon.

Comments on The Scorpions [reply]

1984 love at first sting tour. one of the loudest metal gigs i've been to. this tour was to launch the scorps to global success but they didn't have the new ablum released by the time they started the world tour in the uk. in the days before mass media exposure through channels like mtv the only chance to see bands was to go to thier shows. radio and the music press was all we had. however, it made the gig going experience that much more special. i was totally in awe when the band came on and their 2 odd hour set went by in a flash. this was the scorpions at their peak before they stared went crap in pursuit of the dreaded power ballad. Saw them three times in 1980, in March (I think), at Donnington in August and back at the Apollo in October with Blackfoot supporting. They were at their peak during this time with the 'Animal Magnetism' and 'Dummy' tours and were a class act. Haven't seen them since although I nearly went to see them last year when they were over here in Dubai but what's the point of trying to kid yourself that they'll ever be as good as when you were a fanatical youth. Tried to get backstage in 1980; got flung oot by some Hairy German Biker B*****s. Magic metal band. Great riffs. Rudolf Schenker "The Riffmeister". Saw them again at the SECC with Priest this year. Amazing! Auld men have nae right to rock as hard as that. What have they been doing for the last 25 years? What a waste. New album & act is back up there with the '79/80 classics. [reply]
