And then he walked along the edge of the Circle

This is the place where we will post your stories about the Green's Playhouse, The Glasgow Apollo and Satelitte City (The Wee Apollo). As it develops we will break the stories up into sections such as Myths, Gigs I missed, Meeting the Bands, Where are they now etc. No story too trivial and we will only edit out bad language!

New Forum structure on Apollomemories soon.

Comments on The Eagles [reply]

SORRY I MISSED THIS ONE 77 GIG BY ABOUT 4YRS.
TRULY ONE OF AMERICA'S BEST BAND'S EVER, TO SEE THEM AT THE APOLLO WOULD HAVE BEEN HEAVEN.

best gig ive seen in my life.joe walsh had just joined, and added that much needed bite to their harmonies, and music.what a guitarist, indeed the whole band were immense. [reply]

What can I say.  This has got to be one of the greatest gigs of all time.  I think what made it really special was that nobody had really heard of the Eagles.  From the first notes of Take It Easy, it was class all the way.  It is the only time I have witnessed people scrambling out of the foyer/toilets to run into the hall to see who was playing on stage.  I even saw people leaving their seat to go down to speak with the few people who had purchased a programme to find out the name of the group.  Never to be forgotten!  I have since seen the Eagles another three times, but this was the best – no doubt about it.

Needless to say they blew Neil Young off the stage.  He played what was the worst gig I have ever heard/seen.  It took me another 30 years (God was it that long!) before I ventured back to see him.

The Eagles were still at their best then, i.e. they still had Bernie Leadon!  Those male harmonies were lovely. Shame about Neil Young, but I think he's improved since then! [reply]

They could blow N.Y. off the stage because he was drunk and could neither play nor sing properly. In an interview with the Melody Maker or New Musical Express he remarked that, since he was very famous, he could do what he wanted. I never bothered to see him again. [reply]

This was an amazing gig.

I was a Neil Young fan from his Crosby Stills Nash and Young days, and an Eagles fan, and couldn't believe we were getting both on the same bill.

As reported, Neil Young was totally steaming, and actually fell off his stool whilst singing "The Needle and the Damage Done". A roadie ran on, picked up Neil's guitar, dusted it down, and helped him back onto the stool. Mr Young continued, outtta tune and well-wobbly.

He was truly  ******e

The Eagles gave a superb performance, and blew away an audience who were previously umaware of their existence, and unused to musicianship of this quality.

A night to remember
