| And then he walked along the edge of the Circle
This is the place where we will post your stories about the Green's Playhouse, The Glasgow Apollo and Satelitte City (The Wee Apollo). As it develops we will break the stories up into sections such as Myths, Gigs I missed, Meeting the Bands, Where are they now etc. No story too trivial and we will only edit out bad language!
New Forum structure on Apollomemories soon.

| Comments on Captain Beefheart

| Captain Beefheart, he was supposed to be a legend but I'd never heard a note of his
work. Anyway, I was in the house, bored, so jumped on a bus and paid my way in. I got
a decent stalls seat as so few people were there. It was cold, and the weird chinese
music that was playing seemed to last forever. At one point it stopped. Was the band
coming on? The music started again, was it playing backwards? People were getting
confused, but shortly afterwards the captain and the Magic Band appeared at last.
It's not what you might expect to hear, but I've never seen musicianship to touch it.
The wee red haired bass player was wearing a fireman's helmet, there seemed to be two
or three slide guitar players, and the Captain would blast atonal notes from a
clarinet from time to time, then wander to the side of the side for a chat while the
band played on. Of all the gigs I've ever been to, I've never seen a better one, and
only another couple even compare. But how can you compare anybody to the Captain and
his Magic Band? As far as I know he never toured again, and stopped making music a
few years later. I now have several of his recordings, but I'll never forget this
night, before all that.
